A Whacky Time

Our third week of music class has lead us to wrapping up review of basic rhythms and into a longer unit of studying melody through various means. Please continue reading for class specifics!

Red Room Red room students have been learning about 'Ta' (quarter notes) and 'Ti-ti' (Eighth notes) through listening, mimicking, and recently reading. We have been exploring melody through singing Bounce High and Rain, Rain Go Away while learning solfege hand signs to help us remember notes.

Orange Room Orange room students have been reviewing 'Ta', 'Ti-ti', and 'Shh' (Rest) rhythms and looking at the patterns we can arrange with those rhythms. We started to explore the musical staff and musical alphabet using Boomwhackers and rhythm sticks to color code our note names with their place on the musical staff.

Yellow Room

Yellow room students have been reviewing 'Ta', 'Ti-ti', and 'Shh' (Rest) rhythms and looking at the patterns we can arrange with those rhythms. We started to explore the musical staff and musical alphabet using Boomwhackers and rhythm sticks to color code our note names with their place on the musical staff.

Green Room Green room students have been reviewing essential rhythms of quarter, eighths, half notes and rests while listening and composing patterns in 4/4 time. We have been working to diagram rhythms by counting to 4 (Ex: 1 2+ 3 4). We will continue to explore patterns as we study melody and the musical staff through using Boomwhackers to read musical notation.

Turquoise Room Turquoise room students have been reviewing essential rhythms of quarter, eighths, half notes and rests. We have worked on our listening to hear rhythms in the correct order, designed patterns, and perform them through Drum Circles. Soon we will add these patterns to our study of melody.

Blue Room Blue room students have been reviewing essential rhythms, patterns, tempo markings through listening exercises and composing patterns. We are beginning to work with Boomwhackers to review the musical staff with a goal to learn two part songs involving singing and percussive parts with Boomwhackers.

Purple Room - Drum Ensemble elective Purple room students have dived into the world of percussion by starting with bucket drumming! We looked at the Harvard group THUD for inspiration as we learn technique to learn fun cadences. Currently we are working to keep steady time and add unique visuals.
